  1. Preheat oven to 180 °C and grease an 18 cm tin. Beat softened butter with sugar and add eggs one at a time.

  2. Fold in sifted flour and baking powder, alternating with milk. Pour into the tin.

  1. Bake for 30–35 minutes until a skewer comes out clean. Cool completely.

    Tip: Cool the cake completely before slicing and covering it; cream melts on a hot base.
